👂What’s new

Come on! We just launch our newsletter with a giveaway of the PRX and Tissot comes out with more models?! It really is the hottest watch of the year.

First, they’re putting out a new color for the PRX Chronograph. It’s gonna be a new silver dial with a vertically brushed surface, without any gold on it and dark blue counters. Looks cool.

But! More importantly, the PRX Powermatic 80 is getting integrated rubber bracelets and will keep the quick-change system. That’s it. That’s the perfect summer watch.

There are no official launch dates other than “soon”, but the Chrono will come out to a touch over $2,100, while the rubber strapped Powermatic 80 will be $770

There are two ways to get your hands on what seems to be the hottest watch of the year - the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80. You can subscribe to this newsletter and get five of your friends to subscribe as well to enter a giveaway for two of these watches, one for you and one for a friend you got to subscribe. The other way is to go down to you Tissot dealer and fork over more than $700.

Say you want a third option and don’t want to spend as much money. Citizen can help you out. They’re coming out with four new watches in the ME series, with a janky-but-still-mechanical movement. Three of the models will be in stainless steel with dials in dark blue, light blue, and teal. The final red-dial model features a gold PVD finish.

So, you get a PRX-looking watch with only slightly lower quality for less than half the price. The three SS watches retail for €299, and the gold one is €349. Perfect summer beater.

Sinn is the VW of the watch world. They both produce quality items. They both produce an ungodly amount of uninspired and boring items. They both often have a flash of genius, a model that blows everything else out of the water, but is too expensive, too complex, too finicky or too weird to work.

They both have the exact same fans. They ride and die for their brands. They will talk your ear of about how tough, rugged and reliable they are. They will hold annual festivals for their brands and shout at the top of their lungs how great their watch or car is. And both groups will be ignored by the rest of us.

But since they’re so loud, I have to tell you that Sinn has a new watch. It’s bronze, it looks ok, it’s limited to some number, it’s most likely very rugged and it has a Sellita movement in it. Sinn wants $5,760 for it. Yeah, no.

While Sinn dives deep into their ruggedness, Blancpain is diving deep into their history. I love what Blancpain is doing - not only are they using their heritage better than pretty much anyone, they’re also going out their and building experiences around their watches.

Blancpain is celebrating their 70th anniversary of their diving Fifty Fathoms and the first watch to celebrate with is the Fifty Fathoms “Tech Gombessa”. It’s huge. 47mm. But still looks amazing. It was designed with French marine biologist and underwater photographer Laurent Ballesta of Gombessa Expeditions, an ocean conservation exercise funded by Blancpain. Ballesta asked for a three hour hand and elapsed time bezel. Now, that’s interesting.

What’s less interesting is the eye watering price of $28,000.
